pharma recognition program streamlined to reinforce performance objectives

back to case studies

situation

Our client, one of Canada’s largest pharmaceutical companies, wanted to implement a new recognition program to consolidate all their recognition activities into one unified system. Our client identified 12 high-performance leadership behaviours and integrated them into their performance and talent review processes. They wanted their new recognition program to reinforce it.

Maritz proposed a program to achieve our client’s goals of providing consistency across the company, relevancy and motivation to the participants, and supporting and reinforcing leadership competencies and behaviours.

solution

Maritz recommended, implemented and is managing a single, bilingual, web-based points program providing an easy way for employees to recognize each other. The new program offers individual points “bank accounts”, a shopping cart and access to over 800 rewards.

Three levels of recognition are available through the single portal: one offered as recognition between peers, one offered as a demonstration of leadership behaviours given by managers, and one consolidating annual service awards, spirit awards, life events and other milestones.

The program was designed to link the behaviours that our client wanted to encourage with a greater selection of relevant and motivational rewards for their employees.

A one-day training launched the program, providing clarity in recognition levels, evaluation of nominations and practice sessions to embed understanding of the new program.

results

  • Increase in visibility of desired behaviours
  • Increase in employee satisfaction scores, year-over-year (attributed to the program)
  • 20.9% increase in incremental recognition activity over the previous year
  • Program expansion in second year
